Your Team

The Sun is one of the UK’s strongest brands and a cultural reference point that acts as an entertainer and instigator for its audience. Our product team owns a diverse digital portfolio, including Sun Savers, our Web and Mobile Apps, and the Sun Digital Newspaper. We are a fast-moving team adapting rapidly to the digital world to ensure The Sun remains a daily relationship for millions of people.

Your Role

You will own the strategy and development for the foundational, shared technologies that power our entire digital estate, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and enable other teams to deliver value faster. As our champion for innovation, you will explore and prototype new technologies, such as AI, to help our newsrooms drive efficiencies and keep The Sun at the cutting edge of media. Reporting into the product leadership, you will act as a technical and creative consultant to solve complex challenges across the business.

Day to day You Will

  • Manage the product roadmap for core platform components, balancing foundational improvements with new feature enablement.
  • Collaborate with engineering leads to define the technical strategy and architecture for our core platforms.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling proposals to gain buy-in from non-technical stakeholders.
  • Research emerging technologies, particularly in AI and machine learning, to identify opportunities for application across the business.
  • Lead the discovery and delivery of proofs‑of‑concept for new technologies to determine their viability and business impact.

What we’re looking for from you

  • Experience in a technical or platform‑focused product management role where you have navigated complex technical roadmaps.
  • Deep understanding of software development, APIs, and platform architecture used to partner effectively with engineering teams.
  • Experience using Agile methodologies to run experiments or proofs‑of‑concept that validate new ideas quickly.
  • A curious mindset focused on innovation, with a specific interest in how AI can be applied to digital media.
  • Influencing skills used to evangelise a vision and build consensus among both technical and editorial stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking skills used to analyse complex problems, weigh trade‑offs, and make data‑informed decisions.
