Overview
The Team: You’ll be joining a supportive and collaborative team of Broadcast Engineers, working together to share knowledge, develop skills and help make brilliant radio, TV and digital products. The team are responsible for complex studio and broadcast systems, managing them to ensure high quality, uninterrupted transmissions.
Your Role: As a Junior Broadcast Engineer, reporting to the Lead Broadcast Support Engineer, you will be joining a team of 8 shift engineers responsible for the support, maintenance, fault management, and readiness of News UK broadcast systems and networks, both at our London studios and on location at outside broadcasts. You will work a shift pattern which includes early, late and weekend working, taking part in an on-call rota to respond to urgent technical issues outside standard hours.
Responsibilities
- Provide customer-focussed support for broadcast technology users
- Maintain and solve problems with hardware and software in studios and racks rooms
- Seize every opportunity to grow and develop your skills
- Work with outside companies and internal departments to promptly resolve faults
- Test and fix equipment
- Perform quality and line tests with external contributors
- Book, configure and test satellite feeds for sporting and news events
- Configure equipment to meet operational needs
- Provide support for Outside Broadcasts
- Document systems, processes and procedures
- Keep studios, racks rooms, stores and technology offices safe and tidy
- Implement new systems to support changing broadcast requirements
- Understand transmission chains and audio processing for broadcast
What we’re looking for
- Some knowledge and experience of broadcast media technologies
- Some experience of television and/or radio studio operations
- An understanding of professional audio and video signal paths
- A passion for delivering exceptional customer service
- Good numerical and written skills
- Awareness of IP-based technologies
- Some knowledge of broadcast playout and scheduling systems
- A positive attitude with exceptional client-facing interpersonal skills for written, oral and face-to-face communications
- The ability to assess risk and work in a safe manner at all times
