Position: Freelance Project Coordinator, Newry

Duration: 35 days part‑time consultancy over up to 7 months from 1 December 2023

Location: Based in or within easy travelling distance of Newry, Northern Ireland; flexible remote or office/co‑working

Contract: part‑time consultancy up to 7 months starting 1 December 2023.

Rate: £240 per day for a maximum of 35 days (max £8,400); potential extension.

Line Manager: Project Director, Local News Funds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Project Director to deliver the project plan, meeting regularly and updating the PINF team.
  • Identify and conduct preliminary due diligence on prospective participants, maintain a stakeholder database compliant with GDPR.
  • Build strong relationships with local stakeholders, ensuring they feel respected and understand their contribution.
  • Plan, invite, document and run Local News Fund events; manage event budget; co‑facilitate events with the PD and partner organisations.
  • Produce compelling content for PINF media output: blog, social media, article writing.
  • Maintain accurate project records to satisfy reporting and evaluation requirements.
  • Support the Project Director with other tasks as needed.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Project Management: proven project management skills, proficiency with tools such as Trello.
  • Event Management: experience planning and organising events.
  • Local Stakeholder Relationships: ability to build and maintain relationships in the Newry region.
  • Professionalism: strong teamwork, interpersonal, time‑management, research skills.
  • Communications: clear, diplomatic, and precise written, verbal and video communication.
  • Creativity: problem‑solving and opportunity identification, working closely with the team.
  • Compliance: awareness of GDPR; DBS check if required.
  • Administration: Microsoft Office, CRM, budgeting and expense tracking.
  • Enthusiasm for PINF mission: understanding and conveying the importance of journalism for communities, democracy and society.

Desirable:

  • Experience, familiarity or knowledge of the local news ecosystem, preferably in a professional context.
  • Must not stand to benefit financially; declaration of conflicts of interest required.
