Performance Responsibilities

  • Fundamentals of sport;
  • Health and safety regulations;
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

Ability to

  • Assist other coaches;
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions;
  • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies & procedures;
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, peers, and parents;

Responsibilities

  • Promote sport in the schools and community;
  • Plan the wrestling program;
  • Organize and supervise practices;
  • Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy and rules and regulations of the game;
  • Teach good sportsmanship and self-control;
  • Check eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parent consent;
  • Provide students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance;
  • Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines;
  • Present a positive image of the district to parents and community;
  • Demonstrate concern with the education, growth and development of each student;
  • Seek to develop a positive relationship between home and school;
  • Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety and welfare of student athletes;
  • Adhere to the Newport Board of Education Policies and Procedures;
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED certification, preferred;
  • 21 years of age;
  • Has met requirements of a criminal records check and child abuse background check as specified by KY State Law;
  • Successful completion of all training courses as specified by KHSAA;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sporting rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Days worked and salary

Seasonal. Paid per the approved athletic extra-service salary schedule.
