At NewOrbit Space, our mission is to engineer the lowest orbiting satellites on Earth to rapidly advance global connectivity and insight. We are currently building satellites that can operate at an altitude of just 200 km - one-third that of conventional satellites. Thanks to our propulsion system AURA, we can compensate for the atmospheric drag at ultra-low altitudes.

Your role: You will be responsible for, and take ownership of, the full life-cycle of the hardware test systems, including: specification, design, procurement, construction, software development, integration and maintenance of Hardware-In-Loop testing of our electronic control systems for the AURA gridded-ion thruster, with the aim of testing both the hardware and its embedded software. You will be working cross-functionally with the electronics, control, software and satellite teams.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Specify, design and build a HIL system for testing the AURA thruster electronics.
  • Specify, design and develop the software and scripts to test the hardware.
  • Develop an electronic thruster simulator in collaboration with the software and control teams.

Fundamental Requirements:

  • Proven history of HIL development.
  • Expertise in National Instruments, Speed Goat, dSPACE or equivalent systems.
  • Expertise in test design and development.
  • Good understanding of electronics design.
  • Good knowledge Python, possibly C/C++.
  • Knowledge of Simulink / MATLAB.

Nice-to-haves:

  • 5+ years of experience in HIL development and testing.
  • Space-related experience.
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards.
  • Worked with high-voltage systems.
  • Worked with real-time systems.
  • Worked with power electronics.
  • Experience with JIRA & Confluence.
