Newmedica are one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England providing outpatient appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. We aim to change lives through better sight and eye health. We care for thousands of NHS and private patients a year in our specialist eye clinics across the country. We have been certified as a Great Place to Work for the third year running.

We are looking for a new Ophthalmic Nurse to join our Shrewsbury site. This will be 36 hours per week over 4 days including weekends on a rota basis. Our Ophthalmic Nurses ensure a safe and efficient service supporting outpatients through their clinical and theatre journeys.

You’ll manage the pre-operative patient process by performing a range of clinical assessments and getting the patients ready for surgery. The thought of eye surgery can be daunting for patients, so our Ophthalmic Nurses need to be empathetic and friendly, helping them feel comfortable whilst they are being prepared.

You’ll care for our post-operative patients by helping them relax whilst you explain the next steps and medication details clearly, including what they can expect and any possible side effects.

Our services are busy; we typically see 18-24 patients a day in our high-volume cataract surgery provision, so you’ll thrive working in an efficient and fast-paced environment. You can also support the consultant in outpatient clinics undertaking diagnostic testing as required. You’ll be maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring the highest standards are met in terms of patient safety, confidentiality, clinical compliance, and hygiene levels.
