Overview
In this role you will lead a global R&D team focused on developing new technologies and testing capabilities for heavy-duty engine oil. You will align research programs with technology roadmaps and translate market needs into innovative product initiatives. You’ll manage projects, budgets, and cross‑functional collaboration, while supporting IP and external representation. You will champion safety, quality, and continuous improvement, shaping the future of engine performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead a high-performing global R&D team (UK and US)
- Drive research programs aligned with product and technology roadmaps
- Translate customer and market needs into new product development initiatives
- Manage projects, budgets, resources, and priorities to meet objectives
- Collaborate with Marketing, Strategy, Customer Technical Service, Process Development, and Senior Leadership
- Support IP development, competitor analysis, and freedom-to-operate assessments
- Represent Afton at industry forums, technical committees, and conferences
- Champion safety, quality, and continuous improvement culture

- Significant experience in a chemical R&D environment
- Demonstrated leadership and project management experience
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills
- Experience within lubricants, additives, fuels, automotive fluids, or related industries
