Job Description
About the team
This role provides an exciting opportunity to join Newmark’s market-leading specialist Minerals team, with the chance to travel throughout the UK, develop industry relationships, and build market knowledge and expertise within this unique and highly specialised sector. You will gain first‑hand insight into the vital role minerals play in everyday life, from the materials used to build homes and infrastructure to those that support modern technology and develop an understanding of the sector's significant contribution to the UK's economy and sustainable development.
The team provides specialist valuation and consultancy advice to mineral operators, waste management companies, landowners, lending institutions and public sector organisations. Typical work includes undertaking inspections and valuations of land, quarries, and industrial premises such as railheads, product factories, energy from waste plants and recycling facilities for accounting, lending and taxation purposes, ranging from extensive asset portfolios to individual mineral and waste properties. In addition, the team delivers a broad range of consultancy services, including compensation advice, expert witness services, lease consultancy, and acquisition and disposal guidance.
Through this work, you will gain exposure to a diverse range of clients and assets, developing specialist knowledge within a sector that plays a fundamental role in supporting the UK's economy and infrastructure. Working alongside experienced surveyors on live client instructions from day one, you will build the skills and experience required for a successful career in the property industry.
What You’ll Do
- Support Chartered Surveyors in delivering specialist valuation and consultancy advice to clients across the minerals and waste sectors.
- Assist with valuations of a wide range of mineral and waste assets for management accounting, lending, taxation and other professional purposes.
- Undertake site inspections and data gathering, including measuring, referencing and analysing property and operational information to support client instructions.
- Assist with business rates assessments and other property tax-related matters.
- Develop negotiation and communication skills through exposure to business rates, lease consultancy, compensation and acquisition/disposal projects.
- Build technical expertise and market knowledge through on-the-job learning, while working towards the core competencies required for RICS qualification.
- Work closely with experienced surveyors on live client assignments, gaining exposure to a diverse range of assets, clients and projects across the UK.
Training & Development
- As part of your Apprenticeship, you’ll study for a Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship (Real Estate Pathway) with the University of the Built Environment working towards Chartered Surveyor Status.
- This Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship offers either a BSc (Hons) Real Estate Management or MSc Real Estate qualification as part of the apprenticeship. The route taken depends on previous qualifications held.
- Learning combines on-the-job experience with off‑job training delivered online by the University, so academic learning can be applied directly in your day-to-day role
- You’ll be given the equivalent of one day a week to study, and your job role is structured to help you fulfil the requirements of the apprenticeship. You’ll be learning technical, legal, and valuation skills specific to minerals assets, while building the broader competencies expected of any RICS-chartered surveyor.
- The programme prepares you for the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) - the end‑point assessment to become a Chartered Surveyor.
- Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, students will become a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
- This route lets you earn a full, professionally accredited degree while working - with no student debt - and puts you on a direct path to chartered status within the specialist minerals and waste management field.
