Newman Stewart is partnering with a Belfast-based construction consultancy to recruit a Quantity Surveyor.
This is a key commercial role for an experienced Quantity Surveyor responsible for supporting projects across pre-contract and post-contract stages. The Quantity Surveyor will prepare and manage Bills of Quantities, measure works, support tendering processes and provide commercial support throughout the project lifecycle.
The role will involve cost planning, cost control, cost reporting, valuing progress claims, managing variations and monitoring budgets. Working closely with project managers, designers, contractors and wider project teams, the Quantity Surveyor will play an important role in maintaining commercial performance, ensuring compliance with contract conditions and supporting the timely delivery of project documentation.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare, manage and review Bills of Quantities and related measurement documentation.
- Support tendering processes, including cost planning, pricing and commercial review.
- Undertake cost control and cost reporting across pre-contract and post-contract stages.
- Value progress claims and support the preparation of commercial reports.
- Manage variations, monitor budgets and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
- Provide accurate financial updates to clients, project teams and senior stakeholders.
- Support contract administration and ensure compliance with relevant contract conditions.
- Work closely with project managers, designers, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to support successful project delivery.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Proven experience operating as a Quantity Surveyor within a construction environment.
- Strong cost management and cost planning experience, with the ability to support accurate budgeting and forecasting.
- Demonstrated capability in cost control and cost reporting.
- Proficiency in preparing and managing Bills of Quantities and measurement documentation.
- Experience working with standard construction contracts, such as JCT, NEC or equivalent.
- Strong numerical, analytical and Excel skills, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Professional membership, or working towards membership, of a recognised body such as RICS or equivalent.
- Experience supporting both pre-contract and post-contract commercial activity.
- Strong understanding of commercial administration within complex construction projects.
