The Role
To maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and housekeeping across the site by following all relevant policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. The Yard Operative is responsible for ensuring all waste, recycling, and hygiene tasks are completed accurately, safely, and in line with company expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all site general waste bins, ensuring they are emptied, rotated, and prevented from overflowing.
- Empty all site recycling bins (paper and plastic), operate the baler safely, and ensure materials are baled correctly.
- Uphold excellent housekeeping standards by following all environmental, hygiene, and health & safety policies.
- Maintain a strict clean-as-you-go approach and wear the appropriate PPE for each area.
- Keep the building perimeter clean and sanitary, including bulk flour and salt silo areas and compactor zones.
- Wash, restack, and prepare pallets for return to production, ensuring this task is kept consistently up to date.
- Load and unload vehicles as required, including loading full bales and unloading chemicals.
- Ensure pest control points remain clear and report any concerns to the supervisor promptly.
- Provide cover for Baler Operatives during holidays or absences.
- Convert all factory packaging into bales for recycling in line with company recycling procedures (plastic, paper, FIBC, general waste).
- Complete weekly deep cleaning of all recycling receptacles / cleaning schedule is completed.
- Clean trays and Dolavs to production-ready standards.
- Maintain all hygiene equipment in good working order and report any defects to the supervisor or manager.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the supervisor.
