The Role
The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of capital projects across the Ossett site and wider group.
This includes full lifecycle ownership—from concept development and scope definition through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead and manage multiple capital projects simultaneously (£100k–£5M+), varying in scale and complexity.
- Deliver full project lifecycle: concept, feasibility, scope development, design, procurement, installation, commissioning, qualification, and close-out.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to defined quality standards.
- Lead cross‑functional teams including Operations, Quality, Engineering, Safety, and external third parties.
- Engineering & Design
- Develop detailed project scopes, layouts, and engineering solutions for manufacturing, packaging, and distribution systems (e. g., dry blending, pneumatic conveying).
- Prepare accurate cost estimates, project schedules, equipment specifications, drawings, and tender documentation and ensure adherence.
- Evaluate supplier proposals and support contractor/vendor selection.
- Ensure designs meet requirements for efficiency, maintainability, and food safety (BRCGS Issue 9).
- Construction, Commissioning & Qualification
- Oversee installation, construction, and site execution activities.
- Lead Pre‑Delivery Inspections (PDI), Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Manage commissioning, performance validation, and operational handover.
- Coordinate with production and planning to minimise disruption during implementation.
- Contractor & Vendor Management
- Manage external contractors, consultants, and OEMs.
- Ensure RAMS, permits to work, and safe systems of work are in place and followed.
- Support CDM Regulations (2015) compliance, coordinating with Principal Designer/Contractor roles as required.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Champion a strong safety culture aligned with site and group standards.

- Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost control processes.
- Track spend, manage change control, and report financial performance.
- Deliver projects aligned with approved ROI and business case targets.
- Stakeholder Management & Reporting
- Engage with Business Leadership, Site Leadership, Operations, Quality, and Group Engineering teams.
- Provide structured reporting on KPIs, milestones, risks, and financials.
- Manage Leadership & stakeholder expectations across UK and International teams.
- Documentation & Governance
• Maintain and deliver full project documentation including
- User Requirement Specification / Owner’s Project Requirements
- Basis of Design (Bo D) documentation
- Equipment specifications and drawings
- FAT/SAT protocols
- Training protocols
- Handover documentation (O&M manuals, certifications, as-builts, declarations)
- Ensure audit‑ready documentation for BRCGS and internal governance requirements.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Deliver engineering solutions that improve capacity, productivity, and technology.
- Support group-wide process improvements and strategic engineering initiatives.
- Contribute to special projects as required.
Person Specification
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or similar)
- Proven experience managing multiple engineering projects in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of process engineering and industrial systems
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to a high standard
- Experience with equipment specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
- Strong understanding of UK health & safety and regulatory requirements
Desirable
- Experience within food manufacturing (bakery, condiments, or dry blending preferred)
- Project Management qualification (PRINCE2, PMP, or equivalent)
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems
- Knowledge of automation and electrical control systems
- Working knowledge of ATEX/DSEAR environments

Salary - £80,000 per annum depending on experience.
Travel across UK sites and countries will be essential.
Working Hours - Monday to Friday 08:30am - 5pm with one hour unpaid lunch, due to the nature of this role flexibility will be required.
