Newham Community Law Project is seeking an experienced housing solicitor with a strong commitment to social justice to join our newly established organisation as we launch our housing services in the Autumn of 2026.

You must be at least 2 years post qualification.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape a community-based legal practice from the outset.

Over the coming months we will be applying for Legal Aid contracts and to become a member of the Law Centres Network.

We have grant income and plan to develop a renters rights project.

Around 7,000 Newham households were living in temporary accommodation in late 2025 — the highest number in London.

Approximately 38.5% of Newham households live in private rented accommodation.

These factors create significant demand for legal assistance with unlawful eviction, homelessness decisions, suitability reviews, out-of-borough placements and challenges to prolonged or unsuitable temporary accommodation.

We have recently appointed a Director of Legal Services, who will line manage the housing lawyer. We also have one Immigration Solicitor and an Operations Manager.
