Role Overview
The Sports Lecturer will join an innovative and dynamic team within the Directorate of Professional Service Industries. The role involves preparing and delivering teaching across a range of 16‑18 full‑time programmes, providing advice and support to students, acting as a Personal Tutor, conducting Internal Quality Assurance and handling related teacher administration duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, plan and implement effective and inclusive teaching and supporting learning activities.
- Provide high‑quality teaching, learning, assessment and internal moderation across a range of courses.
- Teach across a range of modules or within the Sports subject area using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods and technologies.
- Assess students’ work and progress, and provide constructive feedback.
- Contribute to the delivery, tracking and monitoring of key skill performance among student cohorts in Sports.
- Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery, and analysing feedback.
- Contribute to outreach and/or widening participation activities within the school.
- Tutor students, giving appropriate support to enable them to achieve their academic, personal and vocational targets.
- Interview and give guidance to prospective students.
- Assist students in progressing to higher education or employment.
- Contribute to the development and continual improvement of courses, coordinating effectively with both staff and students.
About You
We are looking for someone who can motivate and inspire the next generation of Sports learners. You will bring:
- Experience of planning and delivering in line with Ofsted requirements, achieving at least a ‘good’ standard.
- Ability to plan learning in line with Ofsted requirements.
- Proven experience teaching and assessing courses at various levels, providing high‑quality feedback and assessment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to meet targets, KPIs or deadlines.
- Familiarity with safeguarding and relevant procedures.
Essential Qualifications / Training
- Degree in Sports.
- Comprehensive understanding of the curriculum with subject specialism to at least Level 3.
- Strong experience delivering to 16+ age groups with varied abilities in an educational setting.
- GCSE or Level 2 qualification in Maths and English.
Desirable Qualifications / Training
- Recognised teaching qualification such as PCET, PGCE or QCF Level 5 Diploma in Education.
- Internal Verifier Qualification.
- Current training and CPD taken in the past 2 years relevant to the role and vocational area.
