Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we serve over 11,000 students across a range of pathways including 16-18 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education. With over 600 staff, four main campuses, and an annual turnover of £60 million, Newham College is one of the borough's largest employers and plays a key role in driving local economic and community development.
The candidate appointed will join an innovative and dynamic team involved in the delivery through a range of 16-18 full-time study programmes within the faculty of Creative and Service Industries. This includes the provision in Travel and Tourism within the college. They will prepare and deliver teaching for a range of topics, provide advice and support students, acting as a Personal Tutor, participate in Internal Quality Assurance activities as well as related teacher administration duties.
Key responsibilities:- Design, plan and implement effective and inclusive teaching and supporting learning activities.
- Provide high quality teaching, learning, assessment and internal moderation across a range of courses.
- Teach across a range of modules/units or within a subject area using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods and technologies.
- Assess the work and progress of students and provide them with constructive feedback.
- Contribute to the delivery, tracking and monitoring of key skill performance amongst cohorts of students in Travel and Tourism.
- Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.
- Contribute to outreach and/or widening participation activities within the school.
- Tutorship of students, giving appropriate support to enable students to achieve their academic, personal and vocational targets.
- Interviewing and giving guidance to potential students.
- Assisting students in their progression routes.
- Contribute to the development and continual improvement of courses, coordinating effectively with both staff and students.
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PCET, PGCE or Level 5 Diploma in Education).
- Subject specialism to at least Level 3.
- Experience delivering to 16 learners of varied abilities.
- GCSE or Level 2 in Maths and English.
- Proven experience planning and delivering lessons in line with Ofsted standards.
- Skilled in assessing, providing feedback, and meeting targets or KPIs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and partnership working.
- Excellent IT and e-learning skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate learners.
- Strong organisational, time management, and record-keeping skills.
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Flexible, proactive, and committed to the College's aims and ethos.
