Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. The Role:
We are now looking for a passionate and skilled Lecturer in Hairdressing and Barbering to join our Creative and Service Industries team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver inspiring and high-quality teaching across hairdressing and barbering programmes.
- Support and guide learners aged 16+ to achieve their academic, personal and vocational goals.
- Design and implement engaging schemes of learning that reflect industry standards.
- Assess learners progress and provide constructive feedback to support development.
- Act as a personal tutor, helping students with progression into higher education or employment.
- Contribute to the continual improvement of the curriculum and student experience.
About you
We are looking for someone who can motivate and inspire learners to reach their full potential. You will bring:
- A Level 3 qualification in Hairdressing and/or Barbering or relevant industry experience.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
- Comprehensive subject knowledge up to Level 3.
- Experience of teaching or training young people/adults in hairdressing or barbering.
- Strong communication, organisation and IT skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding, equality and delivering high-quality education.
It would be an advantage if you also have:
- A teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent) or willingness to achieve one.
- An Internal Verifier qualification.
- Evidence of recent CPD or training in the vocational area.

The salary for this position is inclusive of London weighting. Please note that it is Newham Colleges policy to offer all roles at the entry point of the salary scale advertised. However, based on your qualifications and experience, we may offer a higher starting salary within the specified salary range.
