Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. The Role.
We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused Student Services Assistant to join our Student Services team. Based at our East Ham campus, you will provide a professional front-of-house service, acting as the first point of contact for students, staff and visitors.
You will play a key role in supporting the student journey by providing information, advice and guidance, responding to enquiries, maintaining accurate records and supporting a range of student-centred activities and events. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong customer service and administrative skills who is passionate about delivering an outstanding student experience.
This role is offered on a full time 36 hours per week, permanent basis.
Key responsibilities.
- Provide a professional and welcoming first point of contact for students, staff and visitors.
- Respond to enquiries via email, telephone, online platforms and in person, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
- Signpost and refer students to appropriate support services across the College.
- Produce student documentation, including attendance letters, student status letters and reference requests.
- Maintain accurate student records and databases using College systems.
- Support enrolment, induction, parents' evenings, progression events and other student-facing activities.
- Create and distribute student communications, including posters, newsletters and email updates.
- Undertake general administrative duties, including data entry, filing, scanning and minute taking.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver an efficient, responsive and student-centred service.
- Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the role.
Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience.
- GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
- Level 3 qualification in Business Administration, Customer Service or a related subject.
- Experience working in a customer-facing, reception or administrative environment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and using databases or management information systems.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative to resolve queries and identify solutions.
- A positive, professional and empathetic approach to supporting students.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and Saturdays.
