Newham College London, now merged with New VIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham.

With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIo T) in Canning Town, we serve over 11,000 students across a range of pathways - including 16-18 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education.

The Role.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Multiskills Technician to support the delivery of high-quality construction training.

The successful candidate will provide technical expertise and practical support across workshop activities, helping to maintain an effective learning environment and ensuring students and staff have access to the resources, equipment and materials needed for successful learning outcomes.

You will also play an important role in maintaining the highest standards of Health and Safety throughout the workshop environment.

Key responsibilities.

  • Prepare, organise and maintain workshop resources, tools, equipment and materials.
  • Support the delivery of practical teaching activities across the Multiskills curriculum.
  • Assist lecturers and instructors in creating a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Maintain workshop equipment and assist with repairs and routine maintenance.
  • Manage stock levels and support procurement activities, ensuring value for money.
  • Ensure materials, equipment and resources are stored safely and accurately recorded.
  • Support learners during workshop sessions and encourage safe working practices.
  • Assist in maintaining clean, organised and industry-standard workshop facilities.
  • Travel to suppliers or employer premises when required.
  • Provide technical support across other curriculum areas and college campuses as needed.

Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience.

  • Relevant vocational qualification in Construction or a related Multiskills discipline.
  • Level 1 English and Maths qualification (Level 2 desirable).
  • Recent and relevant construction industry experience.
  • Experience using a wide range of hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements within practical workshop settings.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to effectively manage workshop resources.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive attitude, enthusiasm and commitment to supporting learners.
  • Experience managing stock, equipment or budgets would be advantageous.
  • First Aid, Forklift and basic IT skills are desirable.
