About Us: Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we serve over 11,000 students across a range of pathways – including 16–18 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education. The Role: Please note that we have one full-time and two part-time positions available for 36, 28.8, and 21.6 hours per week. The salary will be pro rata according to the hours. We are currently recruiting a qualified, experienced, and enthusiastic teacher to join our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) team on a Hourly Paid basis. Our department delivers a range of courses that support learners with SEND to develop skills including independent living skills, communication, personal development, employability, and enterprise. A commitment to working with young people/adults with additional support needs underpins all aspects of our work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, creative, and inclusive teaching tailored to SEND learners.
  • Develop and implement schemes of learning, lesson plans, and resources.
  • Act as a course tutor, tracking and supporting student progress.
  • Contribute to course development, reviews, and quality improvement.
  • Support learners with progression pathways and employability skills.
  • Promote positive behaviour and safeguarding at all times.

Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A recognised Level 5 teaching qualification.
  • Minimum Level 2 in English & Maths (GCSE Grade C/4 or above).
  • Recent experience teaching learners with SEND, including those with complex needs.
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and equality of opportunity.

Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults: In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, all employment offers are subject to employment checks. These include (some of which are dependent on the role and the individual): Enhanced DBS including Children’s Barred List check, DfE teaching/management Barred List check, online searches, overseas criminal record check, evidence of identity and Right to Work in the UK, satisfactory references, confirmation of medical fitness, evidence of relevant qualifications and a check of previous employment history. The College is committed to safeguarding and promotes the welfare of all learners and expects its staff to share this commitment. You will be required to become familiar with the College's policies, and comply with the requirements to safeguard and protect the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults. All staff are asked to complete mandatory training in relation to KCSIE and other key areas, and to read the relevant policies.
