The Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Job Coach to join our Inclusive Learning team.

This rewarding role involves supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) as they gain hands‑on experience in a real work environment at the College's training café, Café Beans.

As a Job Coach, you will provide tailored coaching and guidance to help learners build essential employability skills, confidence, and independence.

You will work closely with tutors, families, local authorities, and external partners to ensure every learner reaches their full potential in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.

The role will be based at our New Beans SEND Café, where the Job Coach will support learners as they develop practical workplace skills and confidence while working in the café.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and coach learners with SEND in a work‑based setting using Systematic Instruction techniques.
  • Break down tasks into manageable steps and create supporting materials (e. g. job descriptions, task lists, maps).
  • Conduct and maintain health and safety checks and risk assessments for placements.
  • Implement reasonable adjustments to minimise barriers and ensure inclusive participation.
  • Train students in key café operations, including food preparation, barista skills, customer service, and health and safety practices.
  • Promote professional behaviour, teamwork, and excellent workplace standards among learners.
  • Support with employability skills such as timekeeping, presentation, and communication.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress and liaise with tutors, the café manager, and curriculum staff.
  • Contribute to the development of learning resources and independent learning strategies.
  • Ensure safeguarding, equality, and inclusion are embedded in all aspects of the role.
  • Assist with café operations when the Café and Catering Manager is based on another campus.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of Level 2 in English and Maths (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent).
  • Proven experience supporting individuals with SEND in educational or work‑based settings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Excellent organisational, IT, and record‑keeping skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, equality and diversity, and health and safety practices.

Desirable

  • Level 4 Teaching Qualification (CET or equivalent).
  • Training in Systematic Instruction.
  • Level 2 Food Safety qualification.
  • Experience in catering, hospitality, or café environments.
  • Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education all employment offers are subject to employment checks.

These include (some of which are dependent on the role and the individual): Enhanced DBS including Children’s Barred List check, Df E teaching/management Barred List check, online searches, overseas criminal record check, evidence of identity and Right to Work in the UK, satisfactory references, confirmation of medical fitness, evidence of relevant qualifications and a check of previous employment history.

You will be required to become familiar with the College's policies, and comply with the requirements to safeguard and protect the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults.

All staff are asked to complete mandatory training in relation to KCSIE and other key areas, and to read the relevant policies.
