About Us: Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we serve over 11,000 students across a range of pathways – including 16–18 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education. The Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Intervention/Wellbeing Officer to join the apprenticeship team. The successful candidate will provide holistic support to apprentices throughout their learning journey. You will play a key role in ensuring learners remain engaged, motivated, and able to succeed by placing wellbeing, personal development, and progress at the centre of delivery. Working closely with apprentices, employers, and internal support services, you will create inclusive and supportive environments that enable all learners to overcome barriers, achieve their qualifications, and progress into sustainable employment or further development. This role is offered on a part time, all year-round permanent basis. Working days are Wednesday and Thursday. Please note we are not able to change working days as this role is job shared.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of apprentices, ensuring ongoing engagement, wellbeing support, and timely progression.
  • Conduct regular progress and wellbeing reviews, including early-stage check-ins and continuous monitoring.
  • Identify learners at risk and implement timely, targeted interventions to support retention and achievement.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and pastoral support to apprentices to promote resilience and personal development.
  • Monitor progress through data and e-portfolio systems, ensuring compliance with apprenticeship requirements.
  • Work closely with employers to support apprentices in the workplace and promote positive, inclusive environments.
  • Provide guidance to employers on learner wellbeing, safeguarding, and performance.
  • Refer apprentices to internal and external support services where appropriate (e.g. safeguarding, counselling, financial support).
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and induction of apprentices, ensuring a smooth and engaging start.
  • Deliver high-quality Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to support learner success and progression.
  • Contribute to quality improvement by maintaining high standards of learner experience and outcomes.
  • Participate in events, open days, and employer engagement activities to promote apprenticeship programmes.
  • Ensure safeguarding, equality, and health & safety policies are upheld at all times.

Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A Level 3 qualification (or above).
  • English and Maths at Level 2 (or equivalent).
  • Experience working within apprenticeships, including knowledge of delivery and funding requirements.
  • Experience supporting learners or students of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong caseload management and stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Experience working with external support agencies and referrals.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with learners and employers.
  • Ability to analyse data and make informed decisions to support learner progress.
  • A proactive and empathetic approach to supporting wellbeing and overcoming barriers.
  • Desirable: Coaching qualification and experience working directly with employers.
