About Us: Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we serve over 11,000 students across a range of pathways including 16-18 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education. The Role: To deliver high-quality teaching and learning in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) to students enrolled in Level 3 BTEC Engineering and Higher National Diploma (HND) programs. The role involves preparing learners for industry standards, ensuring they develop practical and theoretical skills in mechanical engineering design and manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Teach mechanical engineering principles relevant to design and manufacturing.
  • Deliver engaging and inclusive lessons across BTEC Level 2, Level 3, and HND Mechanical Engineering modules, including core mechanical principles, materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, CAD, and engineering mathematics.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners at Level 2, 3 and HND.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of CAD/CAM modules within the engineering curriculum.
  • Ensure alignment with awarding body requirements (Pearson BTEC and HND standards).
  • Design and assess assignments, projects, and practical tasks.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support learner progression.
  • Embed employability and sustainability skills into teaching.
  • Comply with internal and external quality standards.
  • Participate in standardization and verification processes.

Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, or willingness to achieve).
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering design principles.
  • Ability to deliver engaging lessons to Level 2, 3 and HND learners.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to assess and provide constructive feedback.
  • Experience teaching BTEC Level 2, 3 and HND learners.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming and additive manufacturing.
  • Industry experience in mechanical design or production engineering.
  • Familiarity with sustainability and green engineering practices.
  • Ability to teach engineering math, science, and practical mechanical skills confidently.
  • Familiarity with green technologies, sustainability practices, and emerging engineering trends.
