Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we serve over 11,000 students across a range of pathways – including 16-18 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education.

The Role

To play a key role in the financial accounting team to ensure accurate, timely and robust fixed asset accounting and capital grant reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards and DfE/other regulatory bodies\\\’ requirements. To lead on improving processes for fixed asset management and provide operational financial support to budget holders for capital projects and short-term revenue projects as required

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve fixed asset management and reporting processes.
  • Provide expert financial support for capital and revenue projects, working closely with Estates, IT, and other departments.
  • Contribute to monthly and year-end reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Monitor project spend, deliver variance analysis, and ensure adherence to funding and procurement regulations.
  • Support continuous process improvements and mentor junior colleagues.

Our Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria:

  • Part-qualified accountant (AAT, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA)
  • Good GCSE-level Maths and English (Grade C / 4 or above)
  • Experience in financial accounting, including fixed assets
  • Knowledge of month-end and year-end processes
  • Strong Excel and finance system skills
  • Excellent accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail
  • Proactive, analytical, and able to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • High integrity with a questioning, problem-solving mindset

Desirable Criteria

  • Degree in Business, Finance, or related field
  • Knowledge of DfE/GLA capital grant or project funding frameworks
