We are seeking an Employment Advisor to become a part of Newground Together in Halifax. In this role, you will assist individuals who have been unemployed by identifying and overcoming obstacles that hinder their access to or attainment of paid employment. This may include facilitating training and development or addressing personal challenges related to their current situation. You will be responsible for implementing specific funded projects aimed at enhancing life skills and employability. Collaborating with community members, you will work to eliminate barriers that prevent them from becoming job‑ready and securing employment. Additionally, you will partner with Job Centre Plus, various jobs and skills agencies, and organisations within the voluntary, community and faith sectors to enhance communication and foster collaborative efforts in addressing these challenges. This position involves collaboration with a diverse range of partner organisations.

Outline of Key Responsibilities for the Employment Advisor

  • To assist in the delivery of new and existing projects that progress the organisational objectives in relation to employment.
  • Strive to meet established targets, outcomes, and objectives, including assisting participants in securing employment, accessing training opportunities, and achieving social value outcomes.
  • To determine and implement effective approaches which will help our clients develop confidence, overcome barriers and achieve successful transitions.
  • Engage with local business and employers to understand business needs and promote our client base and services.
  • To actively recruit clients into the employability projects, retain their engagement and encourage them to participate in workshops, job clubs and 1:1’s to raise aspirations, challenge them emotionally enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • Identify and harness local, regional and national initiatives that deliver new opportunities access employment/training opportunities. Also, you will deliver group training to develop participants towards employability.
  • Develop working relationships with other professionals working in the field of employment, welfare and training sector.

We are looking for someone who has

  • A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle are required.
  • Experience in a similar role, related sector, or relevant transferable
  • Willing to complete the IAG Level 2 Coaching or Mentoring qualification within the first six months if you do not already possess it.
  • Experience of working with clients aged 16+ years, and supporting them to gain employment or training OR experience of working with clients to help them with progression in their life.
  • Evidence of effectively working with clients who face multiple barriers preventing them from engaging and participating, on short and long term interventions.
  • Have a proven record in developing contacts and engaging with local business to source employment opportunities.
  • Experience of problem solving and working on cases until completion and maintaining and managing a varied caseload.
  • Ability to use your own initiative and meet performance targets.
  • Experience of negotiating and advocating successfully one to one, by telephone.

In return, we are offering the successful candidate in the Employment Advisor role

  • Starting salary: £29,360 per annum
  • Annual salary increment increases
  • 27 days annual leave (rising to 32 over 5 years’ service) + bank holidays
  • You can earn up to 2 extra days off each month by working additional hours.
  • A flexible working environment, with a range of family friendly policies.
  • You will be working 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Working arrangements are flexible in line with our Smart working culture.
  • You will be working from our Calderdale Hubs, which include the Bull Green House Halifax Hub and the Elland Community Hub.
