We are delighted to be recruiting for a Senior Youth Worker to join a passionate team dedicated to supporting young people across Blackburn and the surrounding communities. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced youth work professional who is passionate about making a lasting difference. You'll play a key role in delivering high-quality youth programmes, creating safe and inclusive spaces, and empowering young people aged 8–18 to develop confidence, skills and positive pathways for the future.

Working across youth hubs and community venues, you'll lead engaging sessions, support a team of Youth Workers and volunteers, and help ensure young people have access to the support they need when they need it most. This role requires flexibility, including approximately two late delivery sessions per week, finishing up to 9pm, depending on programme needs.

Requirements

  • Lead and deliver high-quality youth work sessions and community-based programmes.
  • Support the personal, social and educational development of young people aged 8-19.
  • Build positive and trusted relationships with young people, families and partner organisations.
  • Support, mentor and supervise Youth Workers, volunteers and placement students.
  • Champion youth voice by involving young people in the design and development of activities and services.
  • Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, equality and inclusion standards are consistently maintained.
  • Monitor outcomes, maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting requirements.
  • Develop strong partnerships with schools, community organisations, stakeholders and funders.
  • Support the effective running of youth hubs, outreach activities and community venues.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of services through reflective practice and evaluation.

  • Significant experience working directly with young people aged 8-18.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and reach their potential.
  • A strong understanding of youth work principles and informal education approaches.
  • Experience delivering programmes, projects or interventions that achieve positive outcomes.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • The ability to build strong relationships and engage effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with partner agencies and community organisations.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Benefits

In return, we are offering the successful candidate in the Senior Youth Worker role:

  • Starting salary: £18,247
  • You will be working 20 hours per week, including some evening work. This will typically include around two late delivery sessions per week, finishing up to 9pm, depending on programme needs.
  • Your working week will include a mixture of delivery, oversight, session planning, and development.
  • Location: This role is based across two of our Blackburn sites, Shadsworth and Whitebirk. Our Shadsworth hub is a modern, well-equipped space where you will have access to your own desk.
  • 27 days annual leave (rising to 32 over 5 years’ service) + bank holidays (pro-rata)
