Overview

Welfare Assistants – Grade B - Permanent

Newfield School is a well-resourced special school in Blackburn, Lancashire, providing high-quality specialist education, care and therapy for children and young people aged 4-19 with needs including autism, PMLD, SLD, complex medical needs, sensory impairments and physical disabilities. The role is to start in September 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of teachers and senior staff, provide supervision of individuals and groups of children during lunchtime to support the school in the management of pupils at lunchtimes.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Interest in working with children and excellent standards of hygiene.
  • Willingness to undergo training in line with duties.
  • Whilst prior experience with children and young people is welcome, a child-centred approach is most important, and a full programme of training and development will be provided.
  • Effective communication with children, young people, parents and carers is an essential part of the role.

Working pattern and duration

Hours per week: 10 hours

  • Working pattern: 11.30am – 1.30pm, Monday to Friday
  • Contract: 39 weeks per year during term time including 5 annual professional development days

Salary and pro rata details

Grade B salary: £24,413 to £24,796 (full-time equivalent, pro rata)

Hourly rate: £12.65 to £12.85 per hour

Actual salary based on 10 hours per week during term time will be approximately £6,010 to £6,104.
