At Newett Homes, we are looking for a motivated and ambitious Planning Intern to join our team and support the delivery of key planning and operational activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is eager to gain hands-on experience in a professional housebuilder. The work will be varied, providing a wide exposure to the realities of planning and development, with the chance to undertake meaningful work.

As a Planning Intern, you will contribute to the development, coordination, and communication of a range of planning activities. Primarily, you will be assisting the Head of Planning oversee operational matters from pre-development feasibility to post consent operations. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across multiple departments, gaining exposure to a broad range of strategic and operational projects, while also working with external partners and stakeholders across a variety of projects. This opportunity is an initial two-month contract with the potential to extend further for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinating, and with support, supporting post-consent matters.
  • Assisting on planning appraisals for new development opportunities.
  • Undertaking planning related administrative duties (ensuring applications are supported with up to date and correct technical reports and documents).
  • Assisting with the management and administrative duties of overseeing appointed consultants.
  • Preparing and reviewing a wide range of planning documentation to support planning applications, including but not limited to covering letters, planning statements, statements of community involvement, health impact assessments, flood risk sequential tests, local plan promotion documents, etc.
  • Working closely with Head of Planning to ensure that planning applications are prepared on time, contributing to and meeting the requirements of the business plan.
  • Assisting the Head of Planning to monitor and report on both local and national planning policy changes and key planning decisions.

About You:
  • Currently studying or recently completed a degree, ideally in Planning or a related field.
  • A proactive, highly organised individual, able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working with data utilising Microsoft packages (e.g. using Excel), and willing to learn how to find information from a range of sources.
  • A problem-solver with a strong attention to detail.
  • An effective communicator, with strong people skills.
  • Keen to learn and able to collaborate with different teams.

Salary: £25,000+ (pro rata) depending on experience.
