Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Class 1 Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Driver role based in Widnes.
The role involves safely operating Class 1 vehicles to transport freight between depots, rail terminals, ports, and customer sites in line with scheduled routes and delivery times.
Day-to-day tasks include carrying out vehicle safety checks, securing loads correctly, completing delivery and collection documentation, and communicating effectively with transport planners and depot staff.
The driver will be expected to follow all road traffic laws, company policies, and health and safety procedures, while representing Newell and Wright Transport in a professional and courteous manner.
Flexibility to work different shifts, including early starts, late finishes, and occasional weekend work, may be required to meet operational demands.
Qualifications
- Valid Category C+E (Class 1) driving license, Driver CPC qualification, and a valid digital tachograph card.
- Demonstrated experience driving Class 1 HGVs, preferably in container or general haulage operations.
- Strong knowledge of UK road network, driving regulations, tachograph rules, and Working Time Directive.
- Ability to perform thorough vehicle checks, basic defect reporting, and safe load securing procedures.
- Reliable time management skills, attention to detail for paperwork, and clear communication with traffic office and customers.
- Commitment to safe driving practices and adherence to health and safety standards at depots, rail terminals, and customer sites.
- Professional, respectful attitude when interacting with colleagues and customers, with the ability to work independently.
- Experience in port, rail, or container logistics is beneficial; a clean or low-point driving record is strongly preferred.
