Purpose of the Position
Transport Operator
We are looking for a proactive and detail-orientated Transport Operator to manage outbound logistics operations. The role exists to ensure efficiency, high service standards, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills, a good understanding of logistical processes, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide drivers with comprehensive briefings before shifts, outlining tasks, schedules, and safety requirements
- Make real-time adjustments to transport plans to ensure effective factory clearance, inbound collections, and outbound deliveries
- Carry out administrative traffic duties accurately and professionally
- Monitor transportation schedules in advance and proactively resolve potential issues
- Work closely with the wider traffic team to ensure efficient coordination of operations
- Escalate and report vehicle accidents promptly to line management
- Communicate with customers as required, responding to queries and maintaining positive relationships
- Meet weekly and monthly KPIs in line with business objectives and Customer Service Level Agreements
- Use Transport Management Systems (TMS) and tracking screens to maintain system accuracy
- Ensure all live changes are accurately updated within systems
- Verify driver licences to ensure compliance with legal and company requirements
- Log and monitor driver absences accurately for HR and operational planning
Requirements
- 5+ GCSEs or equivalent; additional logistics-related qualifications are advantageous
- Previous experience in transport logistics, traffic administration, or customer service in a fast-paced environment is desirable
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational and multitasking skills
- Confident communicator able to interact professionally with drivers, customers, and colleagues
- Competent in IT systems, including Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
