We have a hybrid & flexible working policy of 3 days per week in the office. There are also travel opportunities to our offices in Turin (Italy) and Lyon (France) to collaborate with our Global Engineering Team.
About the Role:
Support the Engineering Director (ED) for developing, managing, and maintaining a full complement of R&D, engineering, and design capabilities in newcleo’s Global LFR Engineering department (ENG) team, & progressing our exciting lead-cooled fast reactor (LFR) projects.
What You’ll be Doing:
- Assist the Engineering Director (ED) in delivering functional, technical, safety, and business responsibilities, ensuring quality, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide operational direction for resource management, staff training, and development, while establishing and managing the department’s training budget.
- Facilitate the integration of engineering areas/units across design phases to meet technical objectives and statutory regulations.
- Oversee design plans, scope readiness for design stages, and prioritize document delivery across departments for projects.
- Supervise Area Managers to ensure high-quality deliverables meet efficiency objectives and comply with standards, legislation, and contractual requirements.
- Monitor plant modifications and ensure adherence to technical specifications, nuclear safety, and process optimization.
- Promote and implement lessons learned (LFE/REX), continuous improvement policies, and multidisciplinary problem-solving within the department.
- Drive technical task forces to resolve engineering issues and optimize policies and procedures.
- Report on budget, schedules, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for engineering programs.
- Manage CAPEX/OPEX forecasts and ensure compliance with Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety Systems.
Your Skills and Experience:

- Extensive Engineering Management and technical experience, ideally in the field of generation IV nuclear systems, or SMRs.
- M.Sc. in Industrial, Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering or equivalent.
- Meaningful and rich experience in a managerial role within the industry (Nuclear Industry Experience is a plus), including experience with project management.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with demonstrated experience managing complex projects and R&D programs.
- Proven track record in people management, development and leadership of performance improvement and culture change.
- Specialism in one or more of the areas typical of a Tier 2 Nuclear design.
- Comprehensive nuclear engineering technical knowledge.
- Extensive knowledge of QA systems and their practical application.
- Extensive knowledge of the provisions related to the Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Management System.
- (For a UK based role) Right to work full time in the UK & can achieve a national security clearance equivalent to a BPSS standard, or higher, within a reasonable period.
