Overview

In this Senior Lecturer role within the Newcastle Biostatistics Research Group (BRG), you will provide strategic statistical leadership across clinical trials research and contribute to shaping the BRG’s direction. You will collaborate on trials, supervise researchers, and develop an independent research portfolio in biostatistics, including methodological work and teaching. The position blends research, leadership, and education in a leading academic biostatistics environment. You will work with cross-disciplinary teams to advance clinical trials methodology and practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic leadership within BRG and contribute to its strategic direction
  • Conduct biostatistical and clinical research individually and in teams, applying and developing innovative methods in trials
  • Publish high-quality, internationally recognized research
  • Lead dissemination via conferences and venues; secure external funding and lead grant-related statistical work
  • Lead proposal development and statistical aspects of grant applications for external funding
  • Oversee development and execution of cutting-edge research projects within budgets and timelines
  • Offer statistical advice to investigators through NIHR Research Support Service
  • Deliver teaching and supervision for undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and research supervision
  • Contribute to external short courses offered by BRG
  • Provide line-management to junior colleagues and supervise PhD and other researchers
  • Foster collaborations and enhance BRG visibility and impact; explore independent research directions
  • Support formal and informal leadership roles within the Institute and University

Key requirements

  • Strong publication record in leading peer-reviewed journals
  • High level understanding of medical research and statistical leadership for complex clinical trials
  • Experience in preparing and leading research proposals and securing funding
  • Experience teaching statistics effectively
  • Experience supervising researchers and students, including PhD supervision
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary research teams on research projects
  • Collaborative and collegial
