Senior Copywriter – Newcastle University
Salary: £35,608 to £37,694 per annum, with progression to £46,049. Closing Date: 04 January 2026.
Are you a skilled and creative copywriter? At Newcastle University we are embarking on an exciting curriculum transformation project and we are looking for a highly motivated individual to lead on copywriting and content creation across our portfolio of courses and associated education‑focused marketing assets.
In this role you will be part of our Content Team in Central Marketing, working closely with a core project team. You will plan, create and edit content for a wide variety of media to support our content strategy and strategic objectives. You will liaise with key stakeholders across the University, gather educational insights and requirements, and create inspiring course‑focused content that conveys key messaging and engages and converts our target audiences.
In addition, you will support wider content creation across digital and print channels, monitor user behaviour across social channels and search engines to identify valuable content opportunities, and play a pivotal role in ensuring SEO best practice is followed at the University.
Key Accountabilities
- Liaise with key stakeholders to gather insights and content requirements.
- Create inspiring content to convey key messages and engage target audiences.
- Collaborate closely with the core project team and the wider content team.
- Develop multi‑channel content strategies, including creative assets, downloadable guides, infographics, videos, and printed materials.
- Support our blog sites (Belong and FROM), using search data to deliver an SEO content strategy and report performance via Search Console, Google Analytics and Ahrefs.
- Monitor user behaviour across social channels and search engines to inform data‑first content strategies.
- Work with the Head of Content, the Content and SEO Manager and the Web team to ensure SEO best practice and integration into marketing campaigns.
- Perform other duties as required to support the Head of Content and Deputy Director of Marketing.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Practical experience in a similar role.
- Excellent copywriting skills.
- Technical and content SEO knowledge and experience.
- Proofreading skills and ability to sub‑edit copy.
- Experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Microsoft Clarity and Ahrefs.
- Ability to communicate brand standards through content design.
- Outstanding organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong stakeholder management, building relationships and using evidence to inform decisions.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, influencing and driving decisions internally and externally.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Higher Education sector.
- Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification or other relevant marketing/communication professional qualification.
