The School of Modern Languages (SML) has an exciting opportunity to appoint an organised and experienced administrator to join our Education Team. You will help deliver an excellent experience for students and colleagues by supporting the smooth running of our activities. This role is offered as a 40% job share. Hours can be worked as two full days (Thursday and Friday) or three part days (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).

In this role, you will play a key part in supporting our postgraduate students – both postgraduate taught (PGT) and postgraduate research (PGR) – also providing administrative support to staff on postgraduate matters.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance to postgraduate students and academic colleagues regarding standard and non-standard queries and requests quickly and efficiently
  • Lead on the collation of student and education-related data and documentation using University systems, monitoring accuracy and ensuring timelines are managed and met
  • Support student-related activities such as external audits, Personal Extenuating Circumstances and Boards of Examiners processes
  • Co-ordinate and provide administrative support for Education related committees and meetings
  • Provide professional support and training to School Education Assistants
  • Support the administration and delivery of education and student experience related activities, as required, for example student induction and open days
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes across the faculty
  • Understand and implement relevant policies and procedures
  • To work as part of a wider education team and to undertake other duties within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required

The Person (Essential) Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Work experience in an administrative or customer service setting, ideally in an educational organisation
  • Up to date and relevant digital skills
  • Strong numerical and data management skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage own, and other’s time and targets effectively to meet deadlines
  • Ability to use initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills, with capability to customise communications for different audiences
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and to manage competing deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
