The Role
Based in the School of Pharmacy you will participate fully in the School’s range of teaching and research activities. You should have experience of teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students and be able to contribute specialist knowledge relevant to medicinal chemistry within a pharmacy provision that complements the growing teaching and research interests of the School. We are particularly interested in attracting individuals who have substantial experience of working within a School of Pharmacy or equivalent industrial experience.
The School of Pharmacy benefits from being an integral part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences with strong teaching and research links to colleagues in medicine, biomedical sciences, dentistry, psychology and chemistry, alongside our three research institutes: the Biosciences Institute (NUBI), the Population and Health Sciences Institute (PHSI) and the Translational and Clinical Research Institute (TCRI).

Key Accountabilities
- To offer specialist expertise in a contemporary area of medicinal chemistry
- To undertake teaching, leadership and supervision duties across a range of the School programmes, initially with a focus on the pharmaceutics components of the Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) programme
- To undertake administrative duties as deemed necessary, including participation in relevant School and Faculty committees and activities
- To participate in external activity related to pharmacy, learning and teaching, and research (T&R posts only)
- To contribute to the promotion of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy programmes to both current and prospective students
- To act as a personal tutor to a group of students, concerned with students’ academic achievements, and pastoral care
- To contribute to the research strategy (T&R posts only) or the scholarly activity (T&S posts only) of the School and link with other University groups to maximise the income and impact around that work
- To contribute to University administration, course planning, curriculum development, the recruitment of students, engage in teaching and scholarly activities and programme leadership
- To participate in relevant staff development activities
- To undertake other duties, such as participation in School, Faculty and University meetings, as detailed by the Head of School

- Expertise in a contemporary area of medicinal chemistry
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to work well on own initiative and as part of a team
- Excellent organisational, administrative and planning skills
- Experience of teaching medicinal chemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate level commensurate with career stage
- Specialist knowledge and interest in an area relevant to the chemistry strand of an MPharm programme
- Evidence of sustained scholarly activity, including publication of works related to medicinal chemistry
- Track record in publishing in peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with career stage (T&R posts only)
- Evidence of successful research grant acquisition, commensurate with career stage (T&R posts only)
- Evidence of a coherent research strategy and appropriate alignment with School and Faculty priorities (T&R posts only)
Desirable
- Understanding of current themes and issues in the delivery of accredited MPharm programmes
- Experience of supervision of PhD students to successful conclusion, commensurate with career stage
- Understanding and experience in processes involved in academic programme management
