The role

The Student Success Unit is responsible fordeveloping and supporting the delivery of an outstanding and distinctive student experience so that students have a high-quality University experience.

This role will Support the University’s Lifelong Learning and Apprenticeship Hub (LLAH) in the development and Delivery of Apprenticeship and CPD programmes.

We are looking for an individual with strong interpersonal skills, which will help you relate to our students, academic colleagues, and senior stakeholders. You should also be adept in organising, prioritising, and managing time effectively to ensure the smooth delivery of LLAH Projects.

You should have a keen eye for detail and look to identify and implement improvements wherever possible.

Working with a variety of stakeholders, you will demonstrate initiative, efficiency, attention to detail and a willingness to be flexible to support the wider team.

As a member of the Lifelong Learning and Apprenticeship Hub (LLAH) reporting to the Senior Manager for Lifelong Learning and Apprenticeships you will play a key role in supporting innovation and continuous improvement within the delivery of lifelong learning, apprenticeships and CPD. You will lead on a range of projects and initiatives involving stakeholders from across the institution.

Your role will be to work across teams and with third party stakeholders including businesses to ensure we are delivering an outstanding offer for lifelong learning, apprenticeships and CPD.

To be successful in this role you should have a good understanding of lifelong learning and the skills agenda within the Higher Education sector. You will need to demonstrate the ability to work on complex projects to challenging deadlines as well as excellent organisational, interpersonal and written skills. An essential element of this role will be your ability to influence stakeholders to ensure they are fully engaged in the successful implementation of the projects and initiatives you are working on.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the planning and initiation of bids, projects and initiatives ensuring the correct governance is in place and appropriate stakeholders are involved
  • Ensure that the benefits of the project are identified, owned and tracked in order to support the effective evaluation and where appropriate continued delivery or wider deployment of the work
  • Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals and deliverables and where appropriate develop business case details to enable selection of options where appropriate. These should include a cost/benefit analysis for each option as appropriate including recommendations
  • Define project products and tasks in order to develop appropriate project plans andresource requirements
  • Coordinate and lead project teams comprising of internal staff and third party suppliers to ensure a collaborative and focussed approach in the delivery of the project. Maintain focus on the desired outcome of the project ensuring appropriate and continued engagement throughout
  • Where appropriate manage any budgets associated with the project controlling th expenditures within tolerance and monitoring the costs against project deliverables
  • Create and maintain appropriate communication channels in order to ensure effective and timely communication with all stakeholders. This should include regular stakeholder meetings and updates to the wider LLAH and Student Success Teams
  • Prepare and present project reports, project documentation and data reports relating to the student experience
  • Lead on discussions regarding the delivery of lifelong learning, apprenticeships and CPD
  • Organise and deliver events to engage internal and external stakeholders and raise awareness of the work of the LLAH
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of relevant activities, benchmarking, good practice, policy matters and trends within Higher Education
  • Engage with sector wide developments and innovation with a view to developing best practice within the team
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably requested in the delivery of the University’s strategic objectives

The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience of working in a Higher Education Institute or similar mutli-faceted organisation
  • Experience of successfully managing projects/workstreams and able to demonstrate effective leadership and motivational skills
  • An understanding of lifelong learning and the skills agenda in Higher Education
  • Ability to tailor communications to suit the audience and ability to influence decisions to maintain a focus on the delivery of a successful outcome
  • Ability to develop and a project plan and the ability to use various planning techniques
  • Understanding of the importance of Risk Management
  • Experience of providing regular and ad-hoc reporting to a range of audiences, both verbally and written as appropriate and to agreed quality standards
  • Experience of working with and managing the expectations of numerous stakeholders
  • Ability to work on own initiative, taking decisions and actions to meet the expectations of the Project Sponsor and needs of the users/students
  • Use of MS Office software (eg Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Use of collaboration tools (eg Sharepoint, Microsoft Groups/Teams, Yammer)

Qualifications

  • A degree and/or relevant professional qualification (e.g. PRINCE2) or relevant experience in project management
