The Role
The School of Dental Sciences seeks a qualified dentist for the role of Clinical Fellow. This position is a stepping stone into a clinical academic career. Responsibilities include contributing to teaching, engaging in research, and registering for a PhD aligned with one of the School’s research themes (Educational, Translational Oral Biosciences, Applied Oral Health). Funding for PhD tuition and a teaching qualification (such as the Newcastle Education Practice Scheme, leading to HEA Fellowship) are provided.
Applicants must have a BDS (or equivalent), comprehensive knowledge of general dentistry for undergraduates, and significant UK dental practice experience beyond Foundation Training. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a commitment to developing teaching and research skills.

- Contribute to undergraduate education in the School, including BDS and BSc Dental Therapy programs, with potential involvement in postgraduate teaching.
- Develop and deliver clinical teaching across disciplines, depending on program needs and personal expertise.
- Support student pastoral care.
- Participate in quality assurance, administrative tasks, and educational program support.
- Register for a PhD in one of the School\’s research themes.
The Person
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Post-graduate training such as Dental Foundation or Core Training or equivalent.
- Proven clinical skills in dentistry.
- Experience teaching in a dental clinical setting.
- Knowledge of general dentistry relevant to undergraduate curricula.
- Research or audit experience.
- Additional skills or training in advanced clinical techniques.
- Experience in multiple dental practice areas (e.g., secondary care, specialist practice).
