The Role
Reporting into the Network Manager the Unified Communications Lead position is key in ensuring the smooth functioning of Newcastle University’s voice networks for academics, students and professional services users. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, monitoring, management, documentation, and support of unified communication services across the University campus and remote sites. Newcastle University is also at the start of the multimillion-pound investment to replace all wired and wireless network infrastructure across all of it sites. This role will be involved in both the support of the existing voice networks and their users and documenting and delivering the transition into operations on the new network.
The Role Will Involve
- Supporting, troubleshooting, documenting and configuring all aspects of Newcastle University’s voice network services
- Ensuring best performance and value for the University and the users of the systems
- Working at University sites in and around the Newcastle upon Tyne campus
- Remotely supporting sites including international campuses
- Reporting on system performance and meeting SLAs
- Managing call capacity to ensure continued high performance of voice systems, with special focus on times of critical call volumes during University processes such as UCAS Clearing
- Liaising with 3rd party suppliers
- Working closely with other NUIT departments such as Cyber Security, Platform & Services and Datacentre Operations to ensure smooth delivery of services which depend on the network
- Extensive formal and informal training opportunities
About You
We seek an IT professional with a broad expertise in unified communications and network technologies. To succeed in this role, you should possess:
- The ability to work with, support and mentor other network engineers in the team
- Expertise managing physical and virtual PABX systems
- Expertise managing MS Teams Voice
- A desire to deliver high quality support to enable others to do their jobs
- Demonstratable ability both to produce process documents and follow established process
- Experience of planning and delivering projects with minimal service disruption
- Previous experience installing, configuring, and supporting complex unified communication systems across multiple sites
- Experience working with an ITSM system
- The ability to manage several competing priorities and deliver on time
- A keenness to learn new skills and systems
