About Your Airport

Newcastle is a multi-award-winning Airport that proudly connects the North East region to the world. In 2025, the Airport was recognised as ‘Best Airport in Europe’, in the 2 to 5 million passenger category, at the ASQ Awards for providing exceptional customer service. Committed to a sustainable future, the Airport is on track to achieve Net Zero Carbon status by the year 2035 and has been recognised as a 'sustainability sector leader'. The business has its own solar farm that can provide 100% of its electricity on a sunny day and it is making significant investments to transition its vehicle fleet to electric models. Over recent years more than 46,000 trees have been planted on Airport-owned land to support its carbon offset activities and enhance biodiversity.

About the role

We are seeking Security Support Officers to help the delivery of safe, efficient and compliant passenger screening within the airport. This role is centred on the cabin baggage load‑on function, where you will play a key part in helping passengers prepare their belongings for screening, maintaining lane flow and supporting a positive passenger experience at one of the most important touchpoints in the airport journey.

As a Security Support Officer, you will be responsible for engaging confidently with passengers, providing clear instructions, ensuring items are placed correctly within screening trays and helping to prevent avoidable delays, jams or damage to passenger property. You will work closely with Security Officers, lane colleagues and operational leaders to support safe and efficient movement through the security search area. This is a seasonal role until 31st October, working from 3am until 8am, on a 3 days on/3 days off pattern.

What will you be doing?

  • Engage positively and professionally with passengers as they enter the security screening area, offering clear guidance and reassurance where required.
  • Provide clear, concise instructions to passengers on how to prepare their cabin baggage and personal items for screening.
  • Support effective tray presentation by ensuring items are placed securely and appropriately to reduce the risk of belongings falling from trays, causing lane jams or becoming damaged.
  • Support efficient lane flow by directing passengers to the correct position, advising when to move forward and helping to prevent congestion around the load‑on area.
  • Communicate effectively with passengers who may be unfamiliar with the process, including families, passengers with accessibility needs, nervous travellers and those requiring additional support.
  • Work collaboratively with Security Officers and wider lane colleagues to maintain a safe, organised and efficient screening environment.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to give clear instructions, repeat key messages and adapt communication style to suit different passengers.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to identify poorly prepared trays, loose items, unstable loads or potential causes of jams and delays.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting colleagues and responding positively to operational direction.
  • Experience in a fast moving, detail focused environment would be an advantage.
  • Must have access to own transport due to shift times.
