The role
We have an opportunity for a Credit Control Assistant to support our debt management by working closely with internal departmental managers and external business customers to resolve billing issues, maintain accurate debtor records, and assist in the timely collection of cash in line with agreed commercial arrangements. The responsibilities are not limited to but will include:
- Proactively liaise with business customers by email and telephone to collect overdue debt and resolve queries relating to invoices, payments, and account balances
- Issue customer statements, reminder communications, and copy documentation as required
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer account records within the finance system
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with department managers to understand business activity and billing arrangements to help resolve invoicing queries, disputes, and complex account issues
- Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and support the Assistant Accountant with documenting billing arrangements
- Maintain clear documentation of actions taken on customer accounts to support audit trails and reporting
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with internal controls, policies, and data protection requirements
- Undertake ad‑hoc work as required, providing flexible support to the Finance Manager and wider Finance team
Who we are looking for
- Relationship-focused, collaborative and enjoys problem solving
- Professional, calm, and resilient when dealing with challenging or complex queries
- Previous experience in accounts receivable, credit control, finance administration, or similar role
- Comfortable working within a complex and busy business environment with varied income streams, customers, and billing arrangements
- Good numerical capability, with confidence working with financial data, account balances, and reconciliations
- Competent Excel skills and familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. SAP)
