About the Role
In this role you will develop and support software solutions to meet the needs of the Newcastle Building Society (NBS) Group. You are responsible for developing high quality software through working both independently and as part of a team. You will work with colleagues to analyse business requirements, design and specify program changes, code the solutions and provide implementation and post implementation support as required within agreed timeframes, procedures and standards.
You are expected to play a key role in the development of systems requirements within the NBS Group. You will contribute to the analysis, design and specification of new and existing system changes. You will play a supporting role in system implementation, communication of changes, ongoing support and maintenance of systems.
About You
You should be educated to degree level, or equivalent, in a related subject. Bringing a solid foundation in technical programming, including program design, coding in relevant languages, working with framework environments, and applying design patterns. While not essential, knowledge of production platforms used by the NBS Group, such as IBMi and Microsoft .Net, would be advantageous, alongside an understanding of databases, applications, and the wider financial services domain.
You are a strong problem solver who uses initiative and analytical thinking to develop effective software solutions. Well-organised and methodical, you can plan and prioritise your workload while managing multiple tasks concurrently. You communicate clearly and effectively, enabling you to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. You demonstrate an awareness of risk, considering potential impacts in your work, and maintain a strong focus on quality assurance by ensuring accuracy, attention to detail, and thorough testing of your own solutions.
Being self-motivated, you should be committed to continuous improvement, embracing change and actively seeking opportunities to enhance your skills and performance. Ideally, you have experience working in a junior development role within a team environment and have contributed to successful delivery in a Scrum or Agile, multi-disciplinary setting. Exposure to the technologies used by the NBS Group, as well as experience working within a managed risk culture, would be beneficial.
