Overview
Newcastle SEND Sensory Service is seeking to appoint a full-time qualified teacher of deaf children from April 2026. This post is an excellent opportunity to join enthusiastic team who support the achievements of children and young people who are deaf, their families, settings and schools across the city.
Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will be an outstanding practitioner who is a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or is from a Primary SEND background with recent mainstream classroom teaching experience.
- We will consider suitably experienced teachers without the mandatory qualification who are interested in developing their specialist skills to work with CYP who are deaf and are willing to undertake the two-year specialist postgraduate qualification.
- The Service provides a mentorship programme for all new members of staff and for those in training.
- The appointment is to a city-wide Service with the role initially based in one of the Additionally Resourced Provisions, at Benton Park Primary School or Broadwood Primary School.
- The successful candidate requires excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with families, settings and other professionals.
- We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated professional who is committed to improving the outcomes for children and young people who are deaf.
- The ability to be well organised and to meet deadlines is essential.
