St Mary's Catholic School, Benton Park Road, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE7 7PE, requires a Teacher of Biology from 2nd November 2026 for Fixed Term Maternity Cover until 24 October 2027 or the return of the substantive post holder. This part-time position is equivalent to 4 days per week.
This role is suitable for both recently qualified teachers and more experienced candidates looking to develop further in an outstanding school. It is a wonderful opportunity to join an outstanding department and a highly successful and forward-thinking school. Ideally, applicants should be able to teach at least one other Science to GCSE level.

Since joining the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust in June 2020, we have become one of the most over-subscribed schools in the North-East, with a roll growing from around 1100 to over 1450 by September 2026, including 5-year groups of around 240. The Sixth Form currently has approximately 300 students, with significant growth as most students choose to stay for their post-16 education.
Recent highlights include:
- Over 75% of GCSE Biology pupils achieved a Grade 7 or higher across the last 4 years, with 100% at Grade 5+
- 67% of pupils achieved at least 2 Grade 5’s in Science GCSEs over the last 4 years, compared with 47% nationally.
- GCSE Science has a Value Added score consistently ranked in the top 5 schools in the North East.
- 33% of A Level Biology students achieved an A* or A over the last 4 years, with 58% A*-B – well above the national average.
