Refugee Transitions and Integration Officer in Newcastle upon Tyne

Overview

Newcastle City Council are looking for a Refugee Transitions and Integration Officer to deliver intensive case work support to people seeking and offering sanctuary in the city. This post is a 1 year fixed term contract. You will support guests and hosts on the Homes for Ukraine scheme, as well as asylum seekers and refugees. You will be joining a busy and passionate team, whose ambition is to deliver excellent support and make a real difference to people’s lives.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of clients, co‑ordinating initial and post‑arrival property and safeguarding checks, and offering appropriate advice and guidance to people seeking asylum, refugees and hosts and guests on the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
• Provide support, advice and guidance to clients including Ukrainian guests and hosts to facilitate transition to a stable LIFE (somewhere to live, an income, financial inclusion and employment) and support integration into the cultural and community fabric of the city.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of the Homes for Ukraine scheme, the UK asylum system, housing and welfare rights.
• Ideally knowledge and experience of delivering one‑to‑one case work support to this client group through work, voluntary or lived experience.
• Experience working with local statutory and non‑statutory partners, and knowledge of the local support offer.
• Ability to use initiative and be excellent at building and maintaining relationships.
