2 x 15 hours based at Connie Lewcock Resource Centre & Byker Lodge Resource Centre. Are you passionate about helping vulnerable adults live safely, independently, and with dignity? We’re looking for two dedicated and motivated Medication Officers to work within Connie Lewcock Resource Centre and Byker Lodge Resource Centre, supporting two highly valued services at the heart of adult care in Newcastle. This is an exciting time to join us as our services continue to develop closer integration with health partners and expand our approach to high-quality, person-centred care.

What Does a Medication Officer Do?

As a Medication Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring that individuals in our care receive their medication safely, accurately, and in line with national and local policy. You will work three 5-hour shifts per week, and you will be required to work one weekend in every three as part of a rota to support the team. Flexibility is essential for this role.

Your core responsibilities

  • Safe Handling & Administration: Administer medication in accordance with CQC safe-handling standards and Newcastle City Council policies. Follow clear procedures, instructions, and care plans to ensure individuals receive the right medication at the right time. Support safe storage and management of medicines, including controlled drugs.
  • Record Keeping & Documentation: Maintain accurate medication records including MAR charts, care plans, and risk assessments. Update reports clearly and promptly to ensure safe continuity of care.
  • Promoting Safety & Wellbeing: Monitor individuals’ responses to medication, reporting concerns to senior staff or health professionals. Contribute to reviewing and reducing risks relating to harm, safeguarding, or medication errors. Promote a safe working environment by following health & safety practices.
  • Communication & Team Collaboration: Work closely with a range of professionals across the health and social care community. Liaise sensitively with people using the service, families, colleagues and external partners.
  • Professionalism & Values: Treat every person equally, with dignity and respect. Demonstrate commitment to personal development and ongoing training.

The ability to drive is desirable, as the role may involve travelling to collect medication when required.

About You

We’re looking for someone who brings compassion, reliability, and professionalism to every shift. Ideally you will have:

  • Understanding of safe handling and storage of medication
  • Level 3 QCF/RQF/NVQ in Safe Handling of Medication (or willingness to work towards this)
  • Experience administering medication and following procedures
  • Experience maintaining accurate care records
  • Confidence communicating with professionals and the public
  • Able to promote health, safety and security in the workplace
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Motivation toward ongoing development
  • Ability to work shifts, including weekends

Desirable

  • Experience assessing risks and taking action
  • Strong literacy and numeracy
  • Experience contributing to team-based support
