Overview

Newcastle City Council are seeking to recruit Business Support Officers to support a number of teams working in various locations across the City. We currently have a combination of full-time, part-time, fixed term and permanent positions available.

Responsibilities

  • Full-time / fixed-term until September 2026: provide support to our front-door Initial Response Service. Typical duties include processing referrals and contacts, completing information requests and handling telephone calls of a sensitive nature whilst supporting a wider team within a collaborative working environment.
  • Part-time / fixed term until July 2026 (3 days): provide the first point of contact to support both the Adult Social Care Point and Care at Home Reablement Service. Typical duties include dealing with complex telephone enquiries, receiving and processing incoming referrals and the creation of service packages.
  • Full-time / permanent: provide support to our Fostering Service. Typical duties include clerical and administrative support, maintaining records including personal and sensitive data, responding to and answering enquiries and maintaining office systems.
  • Full Time / permanent and fixed term until November 2026: providing support to Childrens Safeguarding Standards. Typical duties will include the set up and organisation of Child Protection Meetings, pre meeting prep, live typing of meetings to produce comprehensive notes of highly emotive meetings and distributing accordingly to tight timescales within a collaborative working environment.
  • Full Time / permanent: providing support to Adult Resource Centres. Typical duties include, reception cover, handling calls, database management, and managing ad hoc queries from staff and visitors whilst supporting a wider team within a collaborative working environment.
  • Full Time / permanent: providing support to Adult Safeguarding Team. Typical day will include processing referrals, handling telephone calls, of a sensitive nature whilst supporting a wider team within a collaborative working environment.

Essential criteria and how to demonstrate

In your application you will need to demonstrate that you meet the essential criteria listed in the person specification and give recent and relevant examples of how you meet these criteria.

The successful candidate will require excellent communications skills along with the ability to deal with challenging situations and work to statutory deadlines. They will be required to multi-task and deal with a high workload with changing priorities.

It would be an advantage if you are able to use Eclipse or have previous experience of an Electronic Social Care System, fully familiar with secure email and MS Office, however training will be provided.

These posts work in a generic pool of Business Support staff and you could therefore be placed in various areas to support departments across the City.
