You will providegeneral assistance to the Practice Team and project a positive and friendlyimage to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone. You will receive,assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcareprofessional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Main duties of the job

As the first point of contact within the practice you will ensurean effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and othervisitors to the Practice. You will dealwith all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-upappointments showing kindness and patience all times.

You will be able to explainPractice arrangements and formal NHS requirements to new patients and thoseseeking temporary/emergency cover and ensure procedures and paperwork arecompleted.

You will be trained to work on a daily basis work on Accuryx triage to ensure prompt responses to patient requests.

You will feel confident making and receiving telephone calls as required and will use the care navigation toolkit to advise. Diverting calls and taking messages,ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt delivery to the most appropriate person will be a big part of your role.

You will referrepeat prescription requests on to the prescription clerks, or assist where possible.

You will advisepatients of relevant charges for private (non-General Medical Services)services, accept payment, and issue receipts/invoices for same when necessary.

You will enterpatient information on to the computer as required, following processes accurately.

You will maintaina thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.

You will enjoy being able to cover all reception positions, maintain a working knowledge of unfamiliar tasks.

About us

We are part of the Wantage PCN in the health centre, working alongside Church Street Practice. The Health Centre has had an extension built very recently offering extra capacity.

Our patient list size is approximately 16,000.

We offer free parking at the Health Centre.

Social events are organised througout the year - recently we have enjoyed a darts afternoon, a cricket afternoon and a meal in a local restaurant.

We have a large clinical team consisting of 10 doctors, both partners and salaried GP\'s, a nursing team, pharmacy team, physio team and an admin and secretarial teams.

Job responsibilities

Ensurean effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and othervisitors to the Practice.

Dealwith all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-upappointments.

Inline with practice procedures, ensure that patients with no prior appointmentbut who need an urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptivemanner.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Good General Education including Mathematics and English
  • Experience of working in primary care
  • Experience of working in a GP practice

Qualifications

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
