Support the Chief and Deputy Chief Accountant with the annual Statement of Accounts. Lead on Collection Fund, Revenue Accounting, VAT, Balance Sheet Management and related statutory returns. Maintain integrity of the chart of accounts, balances and transactions. Provide technical accounting advice ensuring compliance with CIPFA and statutory guidance. Oversee and review information from Revenue Service Teams to ensure accurate Collection Fund reporting. Liaise with LG Futures and external bodies on Collection Fund matters. Lead on annual revenue closure, reconciliations, reserves and general ledger activities. Prepare statutory and non-government returns (NNDR1-3, CTR1, RO, WGA). Consolidate group accounts and oversee accounting for schools and related bodies. Lead on grant accounting and strategic VAT issues, including monthly VAT returns and partial exemption calculations. Prepare year-end Collection Fund Statement and aspects of the Core Financial Statements. Respond to complex audit queries and ensure compliance with financial regulations and audit protocols. Produce accounting guidance, briefing papers, templates, audit working papers and committee reports. Review and document processes, ensuring robust financial controls and continuous improvement. Action virements on SAP with correct authorisation.
