Overview

Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking experienced Children & Families Social Workers to join the Family Help team. You’ll support children from assessment onwards, building meaningful relationships and delivering high-quality interventions that improve outcomes and reduce the need for statutory care. The Council is a Good and award-winning authority, aiming to progress to Outstanding, with a strong focus on early, effective support through its Families First model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload, completing direct work with children to understand their lived experiences
  • Undertake assessments, child protection work, CIN planning and court-related tasks
  • Chair multi-agency meetings and work collaboratively with partners to safeguard children
  • Produce high-quality assessments, reports and written evidence
  • Deliver impactful interventions that support positive change for children and families
  • Engage families early to reduce escalation and prevent children entering care
  • Apply social work theories and models to inform practice and decision-making
  • Maintain accurate, timely case records and ensure statutory compliance
  • Contribute to the development of high-quality, ambitious practice within Family Help

About You

  • Qualified Social Worker with 5+ years post-qualifying experience
  • Strong safeguarding, assessment and risk-management skills
  • Confident working across CIN, CP and court work
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to achieve positive outcomes for children and families
  • Court experience is essential
