Neway International are seeking a Court Usher & Administrative Assistant to join our client based with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.
Location: Coroner’s Office, Courthouse Street, Pontypridd
Hours: 37 per week

The team provides essential support to the Coroner, families, witnesses and partner agencies.
The Role
This temporary assignment supports the Coroner’s Service during a period of authorised absence. The Court Usher & Administrative Assistant will provide front‑line support during inquests and deliver a range of administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the service. The role requires excellent communication skills, strong customer service and the ability to work confidently with members of the public, witnesses and internal colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Court Usher support to assist the Coroner in the smooth running of inquests.
- Chaperone visitors attending inquests, ensuring they understand proceedings and directing queries appropriately.
- Manage the Court Recording System and remote attendance systems (TEAMS).
- Assist with swearing in witnesses and supporting inquest openings.
- Create and distribute TEAMS links for remote attendees.
- Carry out general administrative duties including scanning, archiving and document handling.
- Support the Coroner’s Service Manager and wider administrative team as required.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety, safeguarding and data protection requirements.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience working in an office environment.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with staff, visitors and service users.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
- Good standard of general education, including 5 GCSEs (C or above) or equivalent.
- Ability to work calmly, professionally and sensitively in a public‑facing environment.
- Welsh language Level 1 (training provided).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow established procedures.
Desirable
- Experience within a court, legal or similar environment.
