Southwark Council is seeking two Environmental Health Officers to support its Commercial Services Unit with food safety and wider environmental health duties. You’ll play a key role in protecting public health, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering high‑quality, customer‑focused services across the borough. Key Responsibilities
- Carry out food safety inspections, interventions and enforcement in line with statutory requirements.
- Maintain awareness of service standards, performance targets and quality frameworks, contributing to continuous improvement.
- Undertake research, consultation and reporting on environmental health matters.
- Respond flexibly to service needs, using available technology to improve efficiency and outcomes.
- Promote and uphold equal opportunities, customer care and diversity principles.
- Work in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and council policies, encouraging safe practice across the service.

About You
- A recognised Environmental Health qualification (EHRB registration or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of food safety legislation, enforcement powers and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience delivering inspections, investigations and enforcement within a local authority or similar setting.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet performance targets.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with businesses, partners and the public.
- A proactive, flexible and solutions‑focused approach to service delivery.
