Neway International is seeking a Social Work Assistant (SWA) to join our client Birmingham Children’s Trust.
Location: Lifford House, Birmingham
Hours: 36.5 per week (09:00 – 17:30)
Start Date: 4 December 2025
End Date: 26 February 2026
Closing Date: 2 December 2025, 12:00
Pay Rates: PAYE £13.70 per hour / Limited/Umbrella £17.65 per hour
About the Client: Birmingham Children’s Trust is dedicated to safeguarding and supporting children and families across the city. Their teams provide flexible, responsive care packages that deliver positive outcomes and prevent family breakdown.
The Role: As a Social Work Assistant, you will support children and families across Birmingham, working closely with social workers and other professionals to provide direct interventions and family support. This is a varied role requiring flexibility, empathy, and resilience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Visit children and parents to carry out direct work, including life story work, pathway planning, and family support tasks.
- Transport children and supervise family contact sessions.
- Provide practical support to families at times of need, ensuring positive outcomes.
- Work across the city with children placed in different locations.
- Participate in duty/back-up duty approximately every six days, being available for calls and unforeseen situations.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to casework as required.
- Collaborate with colleagues and external agencies to deliver effective support.
Candidate Requirements:
- Experience working with children, young people, and families in a support or care capacity.
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings when required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with empathy and resilience.
- Organisational skills to manage varied tasks and responsibilities.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
- Enhanced DBS required.
